Crime Prevention and Community Oriented Policing and D.A.R.E.

Organizes neighborhood watch programs. Provides crime prevention speakers to local organizations. Crime Prevention Officers can assist you with any community service needs. Please call if you have any questions or concerns.

This program has been in operation for over three years. It provides extended patrols in problem areas and communities. These deputies work directly with citizens within a community to help them identify their problems and methods to resolve the problems. Communities must recognize the solution to their problems lie within the community, most of the time. Government can't solve all the communities problems. Responsible citizens who are willing to participate in "take back our community" can get assistance from the COPS.

The DARE Unit consists of uniform and plain clothed deputies customarily assigned to other divisions. These deputies provide the following public services. D.A.R.E. training for the high schools, crime prevention, lectures, etc... Statistics have proven that early intervention drug teaching does reduce the likelihood a child will get involved in drugs.

Explorers Program

The Sheriff's Law Enforcement Explorers consists of young men and women, age 14 to 21. The Explorers Program was started in 1991 by Sheriff Ed Brown. The program is designed to educate and train the youth of the county, who are interested in pursuing law enforcement as a career. The training is extensive and offers a wide range of experience in law enforcement training, due to the help of local. state, federal and military law enforcement agencies. As a result of this training, the young citizens are able to assist other agencies with events throughout the year. The youth are also positive role models in the community and schools. Our greatest dividends come when we invest in our youth.
